Nvidia rolls out new chips as part of 'AI PC' push
Nvidia, whose chip technology dominates in data centers used to create artificial intelligence software, has announced new products to help the PC industry lure consumers with "AI PCs." Nvidia unveiled three new desktop graphics chips with extra components that will let gamers, designers and other computer users make better use of AI on their personal machines without having to rely on remote services accessed over the internet. The chips, updated versions of existing offerings, will be offered at a "great new price," the company said Monday in a presentation at the CES trade show. Nvidia's rivals Intel and Advanced Micro Devices have already touted what they say is a new era for the industry: AI PCs. The companies argue that AI software is more secure and responsive when it's run on the PCs themselves rather than over the internet. Nvidia now claims its graphics chips are the best engines to power the new types of laptops and desktops.
Nvidia Rolls out A Scaleable Edge Computing AI Platform
"The Nvidia EGX platform dramatically accelerates inference at the edge, allowing us to see subtle defects that human operators haven't been able to see in the past. Nvidia has unwrapped a new edge computing platform, the EGX range, which aims to make machine learning and AI viable as close as possible to the site of data consumption/production. Edge computing is becoming increasing popular as enterprises look to lower latency and the efficient use of bandwidth. Nvidia wants to be the computational power behind the intelligence in devices out on the edge. Speaking to investors during an earnings call, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang noted that as AI systems grow and the data that they have to process expands to incredible scales, he believes that much of the processing of AI capabilities will happen in or close to the edge. In that call he stated: "It's too much data to move all the way to the cloud.
NVIDIA rolls out support program for AI startups
NVIDIA unveiled a comprehensive global program to support the innovation and growth of startups that are driving new breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and data science. The NVIDIA Inception Program provides unique tools, resources and opportunities to the waves of entrepreneurs starting new companies, so they can develop products and services with a first-mover advantage. "Startups worldwide are taking advantage of deep learning for its superhuman speed and accuracy in applications like radiology, fraud detection and self-driving cars," said Kimberly Powell, senior director of Industry Business Development at NVIDIA. "We're committed to helping the world's most innovative companies break new ground with AI and revolutionize the industry. The Inception Program provides innovative startups with key support to help grow their businesses and bring revolutionary products to market faster.
